It was a perfect day although it didn't start out that way. Until we got to
Woodburn it was cool, overcast and stinging rain. Turned out to be a bluebird day
in the Willamette Valley though.
A word of advice: Links are provided that contain a lot of information about each
of these covered bridges. But take the directions with a grain of salt. The guy who
wrote them doesn't seem to know the difference between North and East... many of the
directions are vague or misleading... and in some cases downright wrong. So do your
homework as we did and be prepared to do some scouting to find some of these bridges.
GPS coordinates are included which should help our more high tech travelers.
Julie was beaming all day... which of course made the adventure worth doing. If you
visit the bridges in the order that they are displayed here, you will travel about
175 miles from bridge one to bridge ten.
Linn County, Oregon, covered bride overview
Bridge Six: Ames Creek Weddle covered bridge.
This bridge was very easy to find. Just follow the street signs.
GETTING THERE:
Weddle Bridge
There were some nice lunch locations here...
This stop had a bonus bridge... the Dahlenburg Covered Bridge!
The Dahlenburg Covered Bridge is a magical little bridge that you have to
look around for.
Guarded by an actual wolf who was not all that thrilled to have us there.
Glad it was on a leash and that there was a chain link fence between us.
Bridge Seven: Calapooia River Crawfordsville bridge.
This one was also pretty easy to find.
GETTING THERE:
Crawfordville Bridge
There's a nice little picnic spot here.
A picture of me taking a picture of Julie taking a picture of the Dilligafs.
Bridge eight: Oak Creek Irish Bend bridge.
The web directions for this one were pretty bogus. The fairgrounds is easy enough to
find but the bridge is close to a mile West and on the paved running path. Had we
not asked, we definitely would have missed this one. There is an Irish Bend replica
bridge at the fairgrounds that the casual traveler might easily mistake for the
actual bridge.
GETTING THERE:
Irish Bend Bridge
Here's what the replica looks like. Not a very authentic replica....
Bridge nine: Marys River Harris bridge.
This one is easy enough to find if you follow the directions although the last mile
in on gravel road. You are definitely off the beaten path out here in Wren, Oregon.
GETTING THERE:
Harris Covered Bridge
Bridge ten: Ritner Creek bridge.
This bridge is easy enough to find since it is right off the highway. But the
distance stated in the directions is incorrect. It's more like 4 miles South of Pedee.
If you aren't looking for signs you may go sailing past this one.
GETTING THERE:
Ritner Creek Bridge
