We were out to Windy Ridge in July, 2010.
I hiked out here to the
Plains of Abraham last week.
Our first trip this year has been seriously delayed due to all the snow up here.
To Get to Windy Ridge, follow the signs in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
Forest Road 25 runs from Cougar to Randle. About 25 miles South of Randle, take
Forest Road 99 (which is well marked) to Windy Ridge. The trailhead for Harmony
Falls (which is also well marked) is a few miles before you get to Windy Ridge,
which is at the end of FR 99.
The Windy Ridge viewpoint is at the very end of the road. It's 92 miles from the
last gas in Cougar to the first gas in Randle (or visa versa) for this ride.
That's Mount Adams in the background.
Not exactly the roaring waterfalls we're used to, but here's Harmony Falls...
Spring never came so there's still lots of colorful weeds out here.
Thirty year old dead logs (thousands of them) floating in Spirit Lake.
Cascade Peaks Viewpoint
View of Mount Adams from Windy Ridge.
This is the other end of the Plains of Abraham trail that I hiked last week. The
Forest Service must heave read my web page saying that there was NO snow on FR 99
cuz they declared the road open the very next day!
