I would hate to have the quality of my work be judged by today's pictures.
These are probably the worst images I've ever shot. The composition is mostly
ok, especially since I had to pull the camera out VERY quickly and shoot before
the lens got wet.... but no time to mess with exposure settings so I just guessed
at what the exposure should be or shot in landscape mode. My Canon S100 has limited
aperture options and so I had to crank the ISO up to over 1000 because there was so
little light. Using a tripod was totally out of the question in this very stormy,
rain blowing horizontally straight at the camera day.
It was a pretty dark, overcast day. Everything was grey! So as you
can see, the pictures are very noisy. Julie got better shots with her iPhone
which has a somewhat more sheltered lens opening. I'll run these images through
Lightroom 5.7 when my new laptop shows up next week...perhaps I can improve some
of these images a little.
Big storm hit the Pacific Northwest this weekend. Figured it would be fun to
head to the coast to see the storm. Not many people. Pretty windy but warmish.
Heavy rain! The rain was so heavy and the winds were so strong that I couldn't
keep the lens dry so I didn't get many decent pictures.

These are about the worst quality pictures I've ever taken. Grey skies, heavy
rain, strong winds... even if you crank up the color saturation, these pictures
come out black and white. Plus it was pretty much impossible to keep water off
the lens. About 1/3 of the pictures I took had to be deleted for that reason alone.
The light was so bad that I had the ISO set over 1000 and even that was not fast
enough. As you can see, these pictures are very grainy and the exposure is pretty
lousy. I wouldn't even post these pictures except that it was a good day and so
I wanted to have a few memories of the day.
And btw, using a tripod could have helped but that solution was not practical in
the driving rain. As it was, some rain got inside the lens so that was pretty much
the end of the day's shooting.
