An approximately 40 mile round trip hike

DIRECTIONS
Sunset Highway West to Highway 47. Turn right towards Vernonia. About two miles
past Stub Stewart State Park you'll see the Tophill Trailhead parking area on
the left. Lots of parking. Privy on site. No pass required.
Apparently, thieves and vandals breaking into cars parked here is not uncommon
so be advised. I'm sure most of the locals here are nice people but there are
a fair number of trailer dwelling meth addicted dirtbags living here too...
Nice day (for the dead of Winter...). Sunny and in the 50's. Good day to knock
off this next segment. Big improvement since I was here in 2010. 100% paved now.
You won't see many people on this segment... plus you are only a few hundred yards
from highway 47 so it's not all that tranquil out here..
Looks like they're doing some construction at the trailhead...
Tried to get to the other side of the tressle that goes over highway 47. Not so
easy... it's a long drop and bushwhack to get there... I didn't need to get a
picture quite that bad...
Someone rolled an ATV down there so I figure if it's too steep for an ATV it's
probably too steep for me.
They did some clearcutting out here which kind of hurts the image of being in
a secluded park...
You have to see this place to believe it. Looks like the back room at Morgan
Memorial.
